Today (27 August) the 2021 Kaohsiung Film Festival (KFF) unveils its key vision and the film selections under the annual theme “Psy Paradise.” Recently the world has been drastically changed by the pandemic, and our everyday life is as distorted and real as a dream. In the face of the pandemic, the Kaohsiung Film Festival has specially selected surreal classics such as “Zabriskie Point,” “The Holy Mountain 4K Restoration,” “Black Moon,” “Barton Fink 4K Restoration,” and “More,” allowing fans to create an oasis for the soul through the endless imagination of the masters of psychedelic cinema. The body can be liberated from its constraints every thought can fly uninhibited in these films. Moreover, to cater to movie fans all over Taiwan, in addition to the physical screening of some of the films, the KFF will also collaborate with shift72, an international online platform, and INVR, an online virtual environment which has worked with the Melbourne International Film Festival, to create an online film festival and a program of immersive theater “XR Dreamland.” Fans can enjoy the films of this year’s KFF not only at the cinema but also at home simultaneously through the online platform.
Online Virtual Exhibition + VR Headset Rental Package Allow Fans to Log in to XR Dreamland Virtual with One Click
“XR Dreamland” is the highlighted section of KFF which focuses on the showcase of immersive experiences. This year, KFF launches the “XR Dreamland Virtual” with a VR Headset Rental Package for the audience to upload themselves to the Internet. This section will feature over 30 productions of immersive experience and mark the Taiwan premiere of five original VR films from the Kaohsiung VR FILM LAB. The audience can log in at home, escape from the real world and transport their consciousness to the virtual reality. During the festival, the “2021 Kaohsiung VR FILM LAB Workshop & Pitching Competition” and the “International XR Forum” will also be held to promote exchanges between domestic creators and international industry professionals.
Up-and-coming illustrator SMALLTALK has created two different color schemes for the key vision of the KFF this year. The blue alien, the logo of SMALLTALK’s design, and the FireBall Man, the mascot of the KFF collide with each other to create a psychedelic parallel universe, symbolizing that we in the real world will climb the door to the unknown world and will be randomly transported to a psychedelic paradise by day or night to start a surreal fantasy journey with humorous bad taste.
